Digital Foundry Tests 60FPS on Modded PS5

Published on |

Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter conducted an in-depth analysis on 10 PS4 games that were successfully running at 60FPS on a hacked PS5 with older firmware, thanks to modder Illusion’s efforts.

  • DriveClub
  • Batman: Arkham Knight
  • Just Cause 3
  • Just Cause 4
  • Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy
  • Crash Team Racing
  • Shadow of the Colossus
  • Gravity Rush 2
  • The Last Guardian
  • Red Dead Redemption 2

His demonstration highlighted the PS5’s ability to handle the increase effortlessly, as many titles ran consistently at 60fps, outperforming both the PS4 and PS4 Pro with the same modification.

Microsoft has made significant improvements to older Xbox titles for the Xbox Series X, whereas Sony has fallen behind in this aspect since the release of both consoles. It is worth noting that Sony has not completely disregarded player requests, as they have enhanced a few first-party titles to utilize the capabilities of the PS5 hardware without any additional cost. However, there are still numerous titles, as shown in this video, that could greatly benefit from similar enhancements.
