Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survivor Mode Exclusive To Playstation For One Year

Published on |

If you watched Sony’s State of Play stream today, they debuted a new story trailer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare. At the beginning and end of the trailer was a disclaimer letting fans know that the Special OPS Survival Mode is a timed exclusive for Playstation 4 until October 1st, 2020.

Needless to say, fans took to Twitter and reddit to voice their displeasure over the announcement and to say they weren’t happy is putting it mildly.

The website Charlie Intel, which specializes in all things Call of Duty, initially broke the story. They’ve since posted an update regarding the content that is still coming day and date across all platforms.

To clarify, all platforms will get the Campaign mode, Multiplayer mode, and overall Special Ops mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on October 25, 2019. The only aspect of the game that is exclusive to PS4 for one year is the Survival mode within Special Ops.

Regardless, Activision had to know how this would impact Xbox One and PC players and quite frankly didn’t care. Despite the recent changes to the release structure, it’s apparent that Playstation 4 is still the official home for Call of Duty and that’s not changing anytime soon.

Which is a shame as Modern Warfare marks the first time the series features cross play on all platforms. You’ll be able to play against anyone using the same control scheme. You can also play unfiltered to test your controller skills against a mouse and keyboard player.

Activision also ended the Season Pass in favor of FREE updates including maps and events making them available simultaneously across all platforms. Things were starting to really look up for the series especially after backlash against Black Ops 4 for the lack of content/ inclusion of recycled content. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
